Alaska Trip Photos

Posted on May 3rd, 2009 in Alaska, Personal, photography | Comments

I’ve blogged about this trip before, but I rediscovered these two photographs recently and I love them. These were taken with a 35mm SLR & Black and white film while flightseeing in Alaska a couple of years ago.

1. Under-wing shot while flying over the Alaska Range in a Cessna 206

2. Our pilot landed the plane on the beach so we could hike in to see bears.

Although I love my DSLR, there is something beautiful about these photos. (The setting doesn’t hurt either.)

View from Ray’s Cafe Last Weekend

Last weekend, Alison and I had a late lunch at Ray’s Cafe in Ballard. It’s a great spot to have a casual but delicious meal on the water. Highly recommended. (Oh, they also have fleece blankets for guests for those sunny, but no so warm days.)

Took this while walking the dog at Gasworks Park this morning. I love that Lake Union is such an active seaplane hub.

Looking down 2nd Ave in NYC from the Roosevelt Island Tram

I was in NYC this weekend to surprise my mum on her birthday. My dad flew in from India as well and we were both at home waiting for her when she got back from work. She was completely blown away and it made for a fantastic weekend.

I took the Tram from Manhattan to Roosevelt Island and the view from the tram rocks (I was also pleasantly surprised by the quality of my iphone camera.)

On the one hand, getting up early is a bit of a pain. On the other, the light rocks!

Got this from Dave & Iva yesterday. Thanks for the thought and love the photo.

Random Taj Photo from Last Year

Taj Mahal

Taj Mahal

I know it’s probably one of the most photographed buildings out there, but it is gorgeous. I just came across some vacation shots I thought I’d lost so there will be a few of them coming over the wire. This was taken fairly early in the day hence the relative lack of people.

Photo of a Vespa at Sunset. I love the color of the wall behind it and the reflections in the metal.

Great Post on Why Pay Caps are a Good Idea

Posted on February 6th, 2009 in Leadership, Personal | Comments

Tom Evslin has a fantastic post on his blog about why pay caps are a great idea and I completely agree.

A free market demands pay caps for those who have been insulated from failure. Should’ve been in the bank bailout billfrom the beginning (although there shouldn’t have been a bank bailout bill at all).

The counter-argument that talent will leave the bailed-out institutions is nonsense.

First, why would we assume that the people who head these institutions are talented at anything beyond maximizing executive pay?

Second, where is all this formerly expensive talent going to go?

It’s a cogent articulation of how I’ve been feeling about the situation and while you may not agree, it’s worth a read.
