Real Time Collaboration in Google Spreadsheets Rocks
Posted on September 5th, 2007 in Cool, Product, Technology |
Seeing real time collaboration in action is super cool. Some friends and I were coordinating schedules via a spreadsheet and I logged in to Google Docs to update my piece. When I did so, I noticed two of my friends online and was able to watch them editing the document in real time. Each person’s input box was color-coded to their login name. Everyone who was online could also chat in a window off to the side. Super cool.
I’m a huge fan of Excel and but connectivity and collaboration could be game-changers for Google.

i totally know what you mean - i had a great time writing ad copy with another guy in denmark using google docs - we sat across the table from each other with the same doc open, pitching ideas back and forth and team-typing. very productive.
It’s really cool. I hadn’t really experienced the online office value prop to this point.
So much more effective than emailing documents back and forth.
nice post…
in case you didn’t discover this: if you see someone present on the Discuss tab, but can’t find where they are (which sheet, which cell), you can click the box next to their name and you’ll be taken to the sheet where they are currently selected.
Have fun!
JR,
Thanks for the pointer. Much appreciated.
